Creating A Relaxing Evening Routine To Soothe You After A Stressful Day

We all have those days where it feels like stress is dominating our bodies and our minds. Aside from a bad mood, we can carry it in our bodies. This leads to achy shoulders, backs, and a sense of fatigue that permeates the rest of the day, if you’re not careful. When life feels like it’s getting on top of you, it’s important to have a routine that helps you cleanse the body, mind, and soul from top to bottom. Here, we’re going to look at what that routine can include.

Sit With A Cup Of Herbal Tea

When you get in the door, it’s important that you take a little time to just slow things down. Change the tone and pace of the day. Sitting with a good cup of herbal tea is an intentional act of self-care. One that can serve as a sort of signal that the day is coming to an end and now is the time to start relaxing. Caffeine-free options like chamomile, peppermint, and lemon balm can help fill your senses and ease your transition into the evening without worrying about stimulating yourself immediately. Avoid turning on the TV or answering messages. However, listening to a little music or a relaxing podcast can be a great way to make the moment feel more yours.

Clear Your Mind With Some Journaling

When you’ve slowed the day down some and gotten into the right speed, you can still feel some of those residual thoughts from the day racing around your head, stressing you out. Journaling gives you the perfect opportunity to get them out of there. Unloading your worries, organizing your tasks, and reflecting on your concerns without having to rush to a solution. You can write about what stressed you out today, what you want to work on tomorrow, and one thing you appreciated or felt grateful for. You don’t have to worry about writing the most insightful prose or perfect grammar. It’s a tool for helping you externalize your thoughts so that they don’t spend all evening trapped in your brain.

Release Tension With Some Gentle Movement

When you’re really stressed, you do feel it in your body, especially around your neck, shoulders, back, and hips. Gentle movement can help release that tension without turning your evening into a workout. Slow stretching, yoga poses, or a relaxed walk can help you work out some of that tension while helping you ease into a calmer state of mind. You don’t need to go for a whole gym workout (though that does help some people). The aim here is ease, not intensity, and even ten to fifteen minutes of gentle movements can be just the thing you need. Especially if you’ve been sitting in an office chair for most of the day.

Soothe Your Body With The Right Balms

If you’ve had a really hard day or you feel like your body is tired and inflamed, then body care can be just what you need. Creams and balms can help you moisturize, massage, and cool. Not only providing direct relief but giving you a moment of self-care to really invest in your wellbeing. You can heighten the relaxing effects of a body care routine even further with the right cannabis topicals, getting you in precisely the right headspace to relax and clear your mind, enjoy listening to music that much better, or help deal with inflammation when it’s helping you feel especially achy. It can be the perfect way to slow down your evening.

Have A Deep, Nourishing Soak

A good bath can make all the difference, helping ease your tired muscles and giving you those precious moments to pamper yourself. However, you can use more than just warm water to make the occasion more than just a comfort. For instance, adding natural bath salts can help the experience feel even more restorative. Not only can they introduce relaxing scents to the bathroom, but they can also directly affect the muscles, helping release even more of the tension of the day, so that you feel extra lovely once you step out of the water. Set the mood just right with low lights, gentle music, and no phone in reach to get the most out of your bath.

Set A Calming Soundscape For Yourself

It’s already been mentioned a couple of times, but having the right music or sounds to listen to can really change the whole atmosphere of your evening. After a stressful day, you can soften the mood and settle into a more peaceful routine. Whether it’s with soft jazz, an acoustic playlist, or even nature sounds that help you step away from the soundscape of a busy workday family. Playing this music while you’re making tea, stretching, journaling, or caring for your body can make it all feel much more intentional and relaxing. Just be sure to keep the volume low to create a background sense of calm rather than trying to stimulate the mind.

Ensure Some Screen-Free Time Before Bed

We spend so much of our days with our eyes glued to the screen, you might be surprised how effective it can be to get away from them for some time. The best time to do this is before bed, as phones, laptops, and televisions keep your brain engaged via blue light exposure, especially when you are scrolling through emails, news, or social media. Setting a boundary, such as turning screens off thirty to sixty minutes before bed, helps you create a little more time for your body to relax and get ready to rest at night. Blasting your eyes with the blue light from digital screens keeps your brain more active at night, which in turn makes it harder to get to sleep.

The specifics of your self-care routine are up to you, in the end. However, hopefully the tips above point you in some directions that allow you the deepest and most effective relaxation, relaxing your mind and restoring your body.
