Winter Is Finally Over, Sort Your Home Out

So, winter is finally over and spring is fast approaching. Yay! However, now that you can no longer hide away inside with no visitors, you need to ideally get your home prepared for the nicer weather. You might not think there is anything you need to do around your home, but it is called a spring clean for a good reason. Take a look at the article to find out more.

Clean The Flooring

How is your flooring currently looking? Sometimes in winter your floors can take the brunt of the bad weather. For example, if you have carpets then you can experience muddy footprints or even soggy pawprints if you have animals. Carpets are much harder to clean and this will be your life every winter. What you need to do is decide whether you want to keep your carpet or constantly clean it or get a new type of flooring. Hardwood floor is easy to clean and not just that, it doesn’t take long to clean at all. Check out local flooring showrooms to see if there is anything there that takes your fancy.

Paint The Walls

Now, similar to the flooring, your walls can take a massive hit as well. Fingerprints and dirty hands make their way across your walls and overtime these can become grubby and grimey. Nobody wants to come to a home with mucky marks all over the wall, it is time to dig out the paint. You can simply paint over the existing color if you want the same thing, or you could change it up a little. It all comes down to personal preference but you should also be aware of color psychology when repainting your walls. You don’t want to be doing anything too drastic and painting your bedroom a deep red color as this will instantly put you in a  bad mood everyday.

If you don’t want paint on your walls then how about looking into changing this to wallpaper? You need to be careful with wallpaper as some of them have patterns and need to be perfectly aligned when you place it on the wall. Get in an expert decorator if this is the path you wish to go down.

Renovate The Kitchen

Spring is the best time to renovate your entire kitchen. The kitchen being the heart of the home, you need it to match and suit your needs. If it doesn’t then you will end up dreading going in there to cook lunches or dinners. Think about how you want your kitchen to look and go from there, also make sure you have a full renovation in your budget. If you aren’t able to get new countertops, cupboards, and appliances then there are budget friendly changes you can make. For instance, you could take down the units, paint them a brand new color, add handles, then hang them back up. This gives you the illusion of a new kitchen that everyone will fall in love with.

Declutter

Next up, it is always a great idea to sort out your clutter before spring comes back around. Decluttering can be stressful, especially if you are viewing it as one major job. However, it is best tackled as one room at a time. Head to each room, sort your items into four piles. These piles should consist of the things you wish to keep, throw away, donate, and sell. It is nice to donate your unwanted belongings as you never know who needs them most. Clutter can cause you to feel anxious and on edge constantly, clear your environment and you will feel a lot calmer.

Sort The Garden

How is your garden currently looking? Winter can be incredibly hard on your garden, and really take its toll. If this is the case then you might want to head out there and sort it out so it looks nice and welcoming for spring. There are a few ways you can do this, one is to have a plan and stick to it. The other is to wing it and do little bits here and there as you see fit, you never know the outcome of this one. If you don’t have any clue or ideas on what you can do with your garden then how about contacting a local landscaper. They can come and take a look for you then produce some ideas.

Head To The Roof

Once winter has finished, it is always a good idea to head up to your roof to inspect it for damage. A damaged roof can be a pain to deal with, both mentally and financially. If you don’t want to deal with this then it is wise to check your roof a few times a year to ensure it is strong and stable. If you notice any damage then be aware, you may begin to notice water marks throughout your home. This can leak into your foundation and cause serious issues further down the line. Contact your local roof repair company to see how much this will cost you.

Get New Furnishings

Finally, you may be tired of your current furnishings throughout your home. These might be thick, heavy, and dark so it fits in better during winter. However, these are not great for spring and summer months. Find some new furnishings to hang or dot around the rooms in your home. This could be blinds, curtains, and cushions to name a few. You don’t have to buy these brand new if you don’t find any that you like or ones that fit into your budget. You can search local selling pages or online marketplaces for these items. If you have a larger budget to play with then you could always ask an interior design expert to kit out your home for you.

We do hope you found this article helpful and it gave you some ideas on how to go about getting your home ready for spring. Now, get out there and enjoy the much nicer weather.
