Enough kitchen storage: the ultimate goal of any and all homeowners! Because kitchens are the one room in the home where mess and clutter seem to accumulate.
Everything seems to end up in the kitchen at some point or another, and trying to find a home for everything is just not possible!
So now you’re dealing with a kitchen space that’s crammed, overpacked, and simply doesn’t work for you. But there are a few ways to squeeze a little more storage out of your kitchen; here’s just a few that could work for you!
Get as Many Items Off the Counters as Possible
Most kitchens have a wealth of utensils and mini appliances all over the counters. These are all items you use on a daily basis, so you need them in this easy reach. But wouldn’t it be nice to have the entire counter to make use of?
Of course it would! And that’s why you should invest in floating shelves, magnetic strips, and hooks you can stick onto the underside of your hanging cabinets. Pop these up anywhere you can fit them and watch out for areas prone to bumping your head!
With these items, you can keep your kitchen equipment where you need it – it’s just not in the way anymore! Now you have more counter space for cooking, cleaning, and decoration!
Swap Your Island for a Cabinet Unit
If you’ve got an island unit in your kitchen, you have at least 25% more countertop space than the average homeowner. That’s great!
However, a lot of kitchen islands are simply static units placed in the middle of a kitchen traffic zone. They’re more of a roundabout than anything else, and that’s simply a waste of space!
As such, you’ll want to swap your current island for a unit that comes with kitchen cabinets. Depending on the size of the island itself, you could get two to three more separate cupboard spaces, and that’ll be a godsend!
Use the Tops of Hanging Cabinets and the Fridge
There’s a bit of secret storage in your kitchen as is: the top of the cabinets on the wall, as well as the top of the fridge. Both are areas where you can put things you don’t need all that often, but don’t have space for anywhere else.
Big grill pans, sandwich makers, cake blenders and all their attachments – these can be removed from the immediate kitchen work area and leave you with a lot more space elsewhere.
Don’t try to put these items inside the cabinets either; they take up more space than they’re worth!
You don’t have to entirely remodel your kitchen to get more storage out of it! Instead, you can simply try some of the workarounds above. Make sure your items are off the surfaces by hanging them up, make sure you’ve got island cabinets for a big hit of new storage space, and never forget about the tops of your cupboards and fridge!
