The anticipation is growing and you can hear the buzz of excitement in the air for the big game day! For my family, our love of American Football is fueled by roots of fandom that run deep in Gaelic Football and Irish Rugby Football. You could say our appreciation for game goes well back into the late 1800’s! When I traced our family tree last year, it was so fun to connect the dots and find that plenty of our clan participated in these sports.
When my family elders moved to the states, a new appreciation developed for the U.S. version of football. I dare say, our parties were likely just as rowdy as could be expected, too! They were also filled with homemade baked goods and treats that reflected our heritage, especially on the “Big Game” day. There would loads of fresh meats and stews, crudites and dips and sweets – oh the sweets!
It’s with this appreciate for my heritage that I love to incorporate traditional Irish cuisine in our game day sweets table. Though I tend to stay true the Old-World Irish cooking methods, I also regularly update the recipes. It’s fun to put a new spin on our family recipes by incorporating modern ingredients, particularly ones I know my entire family will enjoy like SNICKERS®.
It’s in this spirit that I created a crazy-good SNICKERS Bread Pudding Recipe for this year’s celebration. Serve this up on your sweets table and you will soon be the MVP of your team!
See this grin? Yep, there’s no doubt – the SNICKERS we picked up at Walmart are a game day hit! |
SNICKERS Bread Pudding Recipe
Ingredients:
12 slices White (or Wheat) Bread
12 SNICKERS® MINIS
2/3 C sugar
2 C Vanilla Almond Milk
1/2 C Heavy Cream
4 eggs
4 ounces White Chocolate
1 tsp Butter
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Use butter to grease a 9 x 13-inch baking pan.
Cut off the the crusts from the bread slices.
Tip: reserve crusts for making homemade croutons later.
Place bread in baking pan, overlapping slightly until entire pan bottom is evenly covered.
Cut SNICKERS MINIS into 4 equal pieces. Sprinkle over bread slices.
In a medium saucepan, over a medium heat, add cream and almond milk. Stir occasionally until liquid reaches a soft boil. Reduce heat and add the white chocolate. Stir regularly until white chocolate is fully melted and incorporated into the mixture. Remove from heat and set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, add sugar and eggs. Whisk eggs and sugar until fully mixed.
Pour white chocolate mixture into the egg mixture. Whisk until fully combined.
Pour pudding mixture evenly over the bread slices.
Tip: Be sure all bread pieces are covered with the pudding mixture. If you notice any “dry” spot, use a spoon to push the bread down slightly until it soaks up the mixture.
Set baking pan aside for 10 minutes to allow bread to fully absorb the pudding mix.
Bake for 30 minutes or until pudding is set.
Tip: When the edges of the bread pudding are lightly browned and the pudding is moist, but “springy” when you touch it with no sign of liquid spots, the pudding is set.
This is what the SNICKERS Bread Pudding will look like when set. Not the “prettiest” dish, but don’t be deceived, the flavor is A-MAZING! |
Remove from oven and allow to cool on baking rack for ten minutes prior to serving. Scoop pudding into serving bowls and optionally top with fresh cream, caramel or chocolate drizzle.
Bread pudding may be served warm or cold with equally great results. For game day, make the pudding the night before, fully cool it on a baker’s rack, then cover and refrigerate overnight.
When you are ready to serve, you can scoop out portions into containers, place them on your game buffet and allow guests to enjoy throughout the game at their leisure.
If you prefer to serve it warm, you can re-warm the tray in the oven for 10 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit or microwave portions for a few seconds (timing will vary on microwaves, try 5-10 seconds first to gauge as the pudding will heat quickly!)

Extra Fun Tips for Creating Game Day “SweetsTable” Magic:
Creating your sweets table doesn’t need to be over-complicated. If you center around a main recipe like SNICKERS Bread Pudding and then fill in the rest of the table with small treats like Skittles® and other candies, it’s easy to create a delicious spread with very little work involved. Plus, guests who do not wish to have too many sweets will be pleased to find they can easily satisfy their sweet tooth without over-indulging.
Find a fun bowl to pour your Skittles and SNICKERS treats into and then set up little plates for guests to use to transport a few pieces.
Another fun way to display your sweets is to use toothpicks with flags or other game day images to make mini hors d’oeuvres. Guests will appreciate the fun display and best of all, the toothpicks help keep things nice and tidy.
