We’re opting for sun safety and smart sunscreen protection in the hot summer months as part of Banana Boat #BBBestSummer #shop hosted by the social shopper media company #CollectiveBias ~ All thoughts and opinions are that of Rural Mom.
Year ’round, our family spends a great deal of time outdoors. In the summertime, we practically live outside our home, taking advantage of every sunny day to indulge our shared love of boating and water sports. This is quite easy to do, considering we live smack in the middle of a national forest just a frog’s hop away from the lake.
What’s not so easy to do, is keeping my family safe from all the sunshine we enjoy spending time soaking up. As we have a history of skin cancer in our family tree, ensuring my family has adequate sun protection in the summer (and throughout the year,) is of top importance. We need sunscreen products that perform and keep the UV rays at bay!
Every summer, I head out to Walmart on a mission to stock up on sunscreen before we even pull the boat from storage. I like the prominent displays and ease of finding a wide variety of options to help our family enjoy lake living without suffering a sunburn.
This year, we’ve turned our boat into a Banana Boat with products that are as individualized as our family members are. (And as a result, we have great sun protection and a fun, iconic theme song, to boot!)
For Rural Dad, the new line of sunscreens Banana Boat Men’s SPF 30 Clear Spray and Banana Boat Men’s SPF 50 Lotion offers skin care protection, hydration for skin and a special defense that combats odor. So, yep, no stinky dads on the boat!
My husband loves the clear, non-sticky spray and I love the subtle “manly” scent that reminds me of his favorite after-shave.
For Rural Mom (moi) there’s the new Banana Boat Protect & Hydrate 50 Lotion and Banana Boat Protect & Hydrate 50 Spray. As I freckle easily, 50 is the lowest I go and I love having the option of sprays or lotions, depending on how quickly I need to apply coverage.
This no-greasy formula has a fresh scent and long-lasting moisturizing properties. Perfect for helping me to keep my summer skin hydrated and protected from harmful rays.
Our Rural Boys like the Banana Boat Kids Free SPF 50 Clear Spray because it goes on fast and even with no ouch factor. Other sunscreens in the past caused them to jump and flop around like jellyfish on deck, this one, thankfully has them keeping still for application.
In fact, they are even happy to spray it on themselves now, which is really nice when you are busy with boat safety checks and equipment preparations.
Most of all, I love that the Banana Boat Kids Free SPF 50 Spray is water resistant for up to 80 minutes. Because there’s always plenty of swimming…
… and major amounts of fun to be had on a sunny lake summer day!
Another Banana Boat sunscreen option for our entire family is the Sport SPF 50 Spray which is designed to offer sun protection for those with active lifestyles.
When it’s time for a break, our Banana Boat sunscreen products are waiting for another round of application. Though these products do a fabulous job of providing a layer of protection from the sun, it’s always prudent to reapply throughout the day.
As the old adage my grandmother always used to quote, “an ounce of prevention today is worth a pound of cure tomorrow!”
Is your family on the Banana Boat this summer? Be sure to stay hydrated, protect your skin and have an amazing summer!

I love that the kids spray is water resistant for up to 80 minutes. My daughter has been getting quite burned during swimming even though she re-applies. What a fun boating day you had!
Looks like you had a fun time at the lake! I always use Banana Boat, the spray makes it so easy to apply on my kids.
I feel Banana Boat is one of the best sunscreen products on the market.
Looks like you had a ton of fun!! We use Banana Boat to prevent sunburn too 🙂
We use Banana Boat all the time, but I somehow missed the men’s line. I’m going to get some for my husband the next time I go shopping.
