The bulk of my grocery shopping is done at the farmer’s market and my own back yard, but we certainly do make our trips to town and love to discover fun new treats to serve up. As we’ve been longing for sun-shiny days in the midst of the harsh winter, Betty Crocker’s new Watermelon Cake appealed to all our senses!
Available exclusively at Target, Betty Crocker Watermelon Cake mix and frosting serve up a bite of summer’s favored flavor. One that I’m certainly looking forward to – can’t wait to have watermelons ripe in the garden!
The cake is super easy to whip together and the frosting is already pre-mixed. The taste isn’t quite that of a fresh watermelon, but it’s certainly appealing. If you like watermelon candies, you’ll love this treat… it’s like a watermelon candy in cake form. Not overly sweet and definitely a big burst of watermelon flavoring.
I used the mix to make mini cupcakes and placed a little sour water melon candy atop each for extra fun and flavor. The sour candy actually complemented the sweet cupcake very well and I do recommend the combination.
My favorite feature of the mix is the tiny little candy watermelon seeds in the batter. Simply adorable! I thought they were chocolate at first, and wasn’t too sure about what I thought about that flavor combination, but turns out they are basically watermelon flavored, too, providing seamless flavor for the mix.
Right now, you’ll find coupon savings at Target’s Site including a coupon for 50¢ off any 2 Betty Crocker Cake and Frosting.
Disclosure: I am a part of Platefull Co-Op and received the cake mix and icing to make and give a review.
