Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF

My earliest memories of Halloween include carrying a UNICEF box along with my trick-or-treat bag. It was a school-wide effort and I loved getting that bright orange box each year, putting it together, carrying it throughout my neighborhood and turning it in the day after, inherently knowing I’d done something for a greater global good, not just taking home my own candy stash.

Multiple decades later, I still love seeing the UNICEF boxes on Halloween night, though they’ve certainly come a long way in design with six new Halloween characters featured on individual collection boxes. The new design encourages children to express their support through choice.

Did you know that through Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF, more than $167 million has been raised, providing children in 190 countries and territories with much-needed health care and immunizations, clean water and sanitation, nutrition, education, emergency relief and more?  You are making a difference for millions of kids in need all over the world.

As a member of the Mom Bloggers for Social Good Global Team of 200, I’m proud to support UNICEF in their efforts to motivate kids to become active global citizens. I’ll have my coins ready for trick-or-treaters this year, will you join me?

UNICEF has also announced the First-Ever Box Design Contest this year! For the first time in campaign history, those trick-or-treating for UNICEF are invited to submit original designs for their own collection boxes. Submitted designs will have a chance to be part of Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF’s 2013 limited edition collection. For more information, visit trickortreatforunicef.org

Every year we have local high schoolers that come through on Halloween and collect for UNicef. I think it is a great cause.
