Share Thanks with Cheerios sendCheer

It is a true joy to see the Cheerios sendCheer  boxes lined up on the Walmart shelves, beckoning all to show support to our troops and their families.

This past weekend at Walmart, we picked up 10 boxes to share with friends and family, starting a wonderful journey that we’ll continue through Thanksgiving.

If you’re not familiar with the Cheerios sendCheer campaign, Cheerios has teamed up with the USO to “send cheer” to military families by sending encouragement and thanks using special postcards you can cut out from specially marked Cheerios boxes. Once stamped, these pre-addressed postcards will go to the USO to be distributed by them to military families.

As a result, for each card received, $1 for each card will be donated by Cheerios to the USO to help fund programs that help support the military and their families! Special displays have been set up in Walmart to make it super easy for your to find boxes with this special promo.

Picking up 10 boxes of Cheerios with sendCheer postcards was a hoot as we got oodles of curious looks from passerbys, but it also offered us the opportunity to chat with another shopper and a store employee about the importance of the sendCheer campaign.

My rural boys had a great time purchasing the boxes and, of course, enjoying some for breakfast the next morning!

First on our stop for sharing was to deliver a box to their grandmother and to spend time with her writing out the postcards for the troops. This was an experience we certainly couldn’t duplicate – a very special bonding moment for the boys and their grandmother to discuss our family history in the military and the importance of our troops and the families who support them.

We then continued with a delivery to my sister but our journey is far from over. Tomorrow we are hand delivering boxes to our neighbor who has a nephew serving in Iraq, and to a friend who has a sister currently serving.

With the remaining boxes, we’ll be making a Cheerios treat (Cheerios bars with Cheerios, marshmallows, butter, and chocolate chips) for our guests at Thansgiving and the boys will have relatives fill out the remaining cards. The day after Thanksgiving, while others are busy shopping, we’ll be visiting the post office to mail all our good wishes!

Do you have plans to say “thanks” to our military heroes this Thanksgiving?

Consider participating in the Cheerios sendCheer campaign and involving your family in this special experience.

I love this idea!!! We are going to do this. Can you decorate them with stickers on the front?

Stickers are a terrific idea! I don’t see why you couldn’t add some as long as they don’t cover up the post marks, etc.

Wishing you a lovely, blessed Thanksgiving week!

    Hugs,
    Barb
