Spelling Bees and The Bat Jar Conjecture

Tonight while watching episode 13 from season one of The Big Bang Theory, “The Bat Jar Conjecture,” reminded me of a 3th grade spelling bee.  There was a kid in our class who just thought he was unstoppable and by far the greatest speller the 3rd grade, or universe for that matter, ever had the fortune to know.

The Big Bang Theory episode centers around Sheldon’s arrogance that ostracizes him from the group which leads to him competing directly against his friends in the Physics Bowl.  As in life, competition against and amongst friends is inevitable.

Now, I didn’t win the spelling bee, but I did come in second, which happened to be one step ahead of my Mr.-smarty-pants-spelling-bee classmate, and that was, well satisfying enough for me.

Often, the smarty-pants do fuel their ego further with wins, but whether they win or lose, watching them often makes for good comedy!
