Ways to Add Value to Your Home

If you are a homeowner, then you are not alone if you are constantly looking for ways to add value to your home. Most people do this on a regular basis, as it’s nice to know that when you do move, you will make some profit on top of the payments you have made towards your mortgage.

Luckily, there are so many ways to add value to a home. What it comes down to is the type of property you own and what potential it has. For example, if you have a loft, you could build upwards.  If you have a lot of land in your garden, you could build something on this. Alternatively, you could add a porch which is really useful for storage. Also keeps your shoes somewhere, instead of walking them through the house.

To help get you started, below is our guide on ways to add value to your home. Keep on reading to discover three different approaches you could take, that will make a big difference.

Build onto your land

If you find yourself in the position where you have a lot of land at the back of your home, then this is the perfect opportunity to add value by building onto it. Depending on the size of your land and your budget, you could consider building an extension, creating a garden room, adding a home office or even designing an outdoor entertaining space. If you are unsure on what to do, why not get someone round as they will be able to create some mock-ups for you as well as in-depth quotes which will include all the costs, from land clearing to the actual building materials.

Build into your loft

A loft conversion can be one of the smartest ways to add value to a home, especially if you need more space but do not want to sacrifice part of your garden. In lots of ways, if you don’t use your loft, it’s wasted space, so making the conversion makes a lot of sense. By converting your loft, you can create an extra bedroom, turn it into a games room or a home office if you find yourself working from home a lot.

Converting your loft can be the more expensive upgrade that you make, but it’s one that can really make a big difference to your space and in the long run, you’ll make your money back when it comes to selling.

Add a porch

A more affordable option to add value to your home but not break the bank at the same time, is adding a porch. A porch will improve the appearance of your property from the outside. It also adds practical storage space for you to use on a daily occurrence. Most people store their shoes, coats and bike in it. A porch also offers an extra level of security as you will have that as your front door, and then another door inside. (Although, we hope you never feel the need for extra security!)

Have you ever made any changes to your property and if so, what changes have you made? Which of the above suggestions interests you the most? Have you got a date in mind for when you want to sell? Let us know in the comment box below. We look forward to hearing from you.
