Road Trip Planning: How To Make It Fit A Greener Lifestyle

Vacations may be a time to let our hair down in some aspects of life. However, abandoning the goal of leading an environmentally-friendly lifestyle is not one of them. With the right preparations in place, though, you can build a trip that fits seamlessly into this lifestyle.

Here are six of the best pieces of advice to help you do that in style.

#1. Embrace Outdoor Adventures

When looking for an RV park to base yourself for a few days, pick one with lots of nature-based activities on offer. More time spent enjoying nature will naturally reduce your carbon emissions and any negative impact on society. Better still, it could be the catalyst that helps you develop a love of new hobbies that can be enjoyed at home.

Besides, the outdoors lifestyle will put you in the right frame of mind for further winning habits.

#2. Stay Fairly Local

When taking a road trip or arranging a camping adventure, gas from the vehicle is a major contributor. Even if you drive an EV, generating electricity has an impact. By staying relatively local, within a few hundred miles of home, those impacts are reduced. Better still,, this means that you can arrive sooner and spend more time enjoying the destination.

Should anything go wrong, you’ll be able to respond and get home ASAP.

#3. Make Your Own Essentials

Camping trips and RV travel will require you to pack a number of essentials. With this in mind, it makes sense so focus on homemade items. Mosquito repellents are a great starting point. However, you can also make fragrances and other key items. At the very least, you should buy from trusted eco-friendly brands to reduce your carbon footprint.

The trip is a great time to start, but you can carry on the habit back home.

#4. Reduce Plastic Usage

In truth, it will be very difficult to eradicate the use of plastic. However, a host of simple switches will make a difference. A refillable water bottle is a great start. Meanwhile, using wooden cutlery and calculator food or beauty product storage pots will serve you well. Individually, the impacts are small. Cumulatively, though, it will make you a far greener traveler.

Once again, it is an upgrade that can follow you into daily life once you return home.

#5. Embrace Solar Energy

You are going to use energy when you’re away. However, a portable solar panel can harness the sun’s energy to make you self-sufficient. The key here is to ensure that they are positioned in a suitable position to harness more of the sun’s energy. This will maximize the benefits while saving you money in the process.

Of course, simple idea like hanging clothes out to dry by your campsite works well too.

#6. Reduce Unnecessary Wasted Energy

As already mentioned, the journey itself is a heavy contributor. As well as staying local, you’ll want to plan the journey strategically. Aside from saving energy, it is a fantastic way to save time. While you certainly don’t want to overpack, leaving unnecessary items at home is useful too. Less weight means less energy is needed to transport them.

Likewise, some bigger items may be better to hire once you arrive at the chosen destination.
