5 Design Tips To Bring Your Boring Entrance Hall To Life

An entrance hall doesn’t have to be boring. If anything, it needs to be one of the more stylish parts of your house. Think about it; how many people will actually see your living room, bathroom, kitchen, etc? It’ll only be close friends and family – the majority of other people will see the outside of your home or catch a glimpse of the entrance hall when knocking on your door.

Consequently, the entrance hall almost becomes the most important part of your house. It represents the rest of your interior design, and can mean that your child’s friend’s mother doesn’t have something bad to chat about with their friends after dropping their child off at your house.

It’s too easy to forget about entrance hall design because you turn your attention to the “main” rooms, but here are some design tips to bring yours to life – and create the perfect representation of your home.

Brighten it up

Improve the lighting in your entrance hall by ensuring it remains well illuminated. Most entranceways are dark and gloomy affairs, which in turn makes your entire home seem dark and gloomy to anyone who gets a peek inside. Brighten it up with a nice ceiling light, plus maybe some accent lights on the walls – if you have enough space. You don’t want to make the area feel cramped by adding large sconces to the wall. A well-lit entrance hallway instantly looks better – but that’s just the first step.

Create more space with a mirror

Use a wall mirror to create the illusion of more space in your entrance hall. Plus, the mirror also reflects light and makes the hallway seem brighter, so it’s a double benefit. Mirrors work so well in confined spaces like this because they don’t take up much surface area, yet transform the way the hall looks. You can play around with sizes and shapes depending on what else you’re putting on the walls. There’s no need to go over the top here – and a mirror also means you’ve got one last vanity check before leaving the house!

Add a statement wall clock

Every room deserves a statement piece, and that includes your entrance hall. The trouble with this is that it’s hard to think of something that adds a statement in such a small setting. You’ve got the narrowest part of your house to deal with, so you’re probably turning attention to the walls. This leaves a couple of options open – though a luxury wall clock is the best. It adds some new class and style to your entrance hall, almost making it seem more prestigious and upper-class. A wall clock won’t take up all of your space either, so there’s no danger of cluttering the walls or hallway.

Lay down a stylish runner

Runners are like rugs, only more robust and designed for long and thin areas – like a hallway. They have two excellent purposes when you’re trying to liven up your home: decorate the flooring and prevent muddy footprints. An excellent runner will cover part of the entrance floor and bring new textures, colors, and design elements to the space. At the same time, kids and everyone can step on the runner without getting their muddy shoes everywhere. You need a runner that can handle this and is easy to clean, but it helps the entire entrance hall remain clean.

Keep things organized with clever storage

Does your entrance hall look like an absolute tip? Maybe you’ve got coats strung over a bannister, shoes cluttering the hallway, and bags just thrown on the ground. This is a common sight in many households (especially if you have kids), and it ruins the entire entranceway aesthetic. Anyone who pops their head in to deliver a package or pick up their child will think your entire home is as messy as this hallway.

Well, no more. Keep the entranceway organized with clever storage solutions. For example, place hooks on your front door to store everyone’s coats. Get thin sideboards or other storage pieces to rest bags – and make sure you have a shoe rack for everyone’s shoes to go on. If you can keep the clutter away from the entrance floor and surrounding areas, then the entire space feels uplifted.

Call upon these five design tips to bring your boring entrance hall to life. It’s a representation of the rest of your home to anyone who knocks on your door but doesn’t come inside, so you need it to look fantastic!
