Front porches are lovely curb appeal additions. Not only do you squeeze a bit more temperate, dry space out of your property, but you also have a more grand and involved entryway to your home. More value, more function, and more reasons to be proud of your home!
But if you have a front porch that looks dirty, dated, small, and cramped, you probably want to try some kind of improvement project! And that’s what we can help with. Here are a few of the things that really improve the look and feel of a front porch.
The Right Color
Painting your porch is quite an easy DIY job to get out of the way, so that’s where we’re going to start with your porch improvement efforts.
When it’s the right color, it’s going to help the house stand out – in a good way! The porch isn’t going to blend in, it’s not going to stick out like a sore thumb, and it’s simply going to help you create valuable curb appeal.
Choose a color from the same palette as the rest of your house, but don’t let it be too bright. You want it to have some kind of boldness to it, but you don’t want the coloring to wash out anything behind it. And if that means you simply go with wood tones, so be it!
New Stairs
When you take a step back from your porch, what’s the first thing that catches your eye? We’d put money on it being the stairs that lead up to the porch!
They’re very central on most home porches, and if they’re in a bad shape, the whole porch is going to look shabby and disused.
So that makes these the first thing to actually remove and replace. Porch stairs should complement the house as a whole, and also be made of the kind of material that lets them weather a storm!
This way you won’t have to worry about erosion, rusting, or paint flaking off before its time. One of the best porch stairs materials is fiberglass, as fiberglass stairs look great, add a modern touch, and are easy to waterproof.
Under Lighting
Our last tip for porch improvement, make sure you light it up! Under lighting, whether underneath the stairs or the roof, will give your porch a more dynamic look to it.
It’ll also make it much easier to see in the evenings, so you won’t stumble up the steps when you get home late!
And remember, well lit entrance ways are actually a security deterrent. If people think you can see them, they’re less likely to approach! Even fairy lights help with this, so you don’t even need motion activated lights if they simply don’t fit the look you’d like to go for.
If your front porch needs some TLC, try out these decor tips. They’ll make it seem like a whole new porch has been fitted! Plus, they’re not too expensive either.
