Why It’s Vital To Use Your Hearing Aids Consistently

A new pair of hearing aids can be a pretty big deal. It’s one of the most popular forms of hearing loss treatment because it is really that effective. However, new users can often find themselves hesitant to use them often, or they can be neglectful or even forgetful about them. However, to get the best out of your hearing aids, using them consistently is recommended and here’s why.

You Need Time to Acclimatize

When you first put on a new pair of hearing aids, it’s only natural that it’s going to feel and sound a little strange. After all, you’re probably not used to wearing something in your ear all the time, nor are you used to hearing sounds as clearly, from environmental noise to your own voice.

However, while it might initially sound a little strange, your brain’s auditory system will get used to them over time. That said, your brain can only adjust to get used to hearing aids if you wear them. Wearing them only occasionally delays the necessary adjustment, making them more likely to overwhelm you each time you put them in.

Learn How to Use Them

If you don’t use your hearing aids as often as you should, then they can continue to remain alien and strange to you. You’re not likely to get used to them or to learn about the different features that can help you. As such, when you really need them, such as in social situations, you can find yourself having trouble adjusting them to suit different listening environments.

What’s more, it’s always worth taking the time to check out the latest updates, as there may be new software or accessories that can greatly improve the functionality and versatility of your devices. Becoming more acclimated with your hearing aids is the best way to ensure you’re getting the best out of them.

Keep Them in Good Condition

If your hearing aids sit unused for long periods of time, not only is it not good for your hearing, but it’s not good for the hearing aids, either. Taking care of your hearing aids protects your investment. However, when you’re not using them, they can begin to experience all manner of issues, like moisture buildup inside the device, which can damage components, and draining the battery life.

Batteries best operate when they are used and charged regularly, not when they’re allowed to drain all the way and remain drained for long periods of time. Aside from cleaning your hearing aids every day and keeping them in a dry storage compartment, using them regularly is part of keeping them in good condition, too.

If you feel like you’re not quite gelling with your hearing aids yet, the reason is almost always that you’re not wearing them enough. Keep the reasons above in mind and make a conscious effort to wear them more often. Most complaints will fade away with time, and if you have any other issues, you should talk to your audiologist. Usually, there is a solution worth taking a closer look at.
