9 Ways You Can Look After Your Health and Wellbeing

Your health and wellbeing is vitally important so it’s essential you do everything you can to manage it. You may constantly see different stories in and around the media surrounding things you can do to improve your health and wellbeing. Sometimes this is fake information, and you could end up doing more harm than good.

If you want to do better with your health, then taking it back to basics is the best thing you can do. Take a look at the article below to find some tips and inspiration.

Eat Well

If you are trying to focus on your health and wellbeing there is nothing better than eating the right foods. A healthy balanced diet is what you should be aiming for, and of course, you can include a tiny bit of junk food. Your plate each day should include carbohydrates, proteins, fats, dairy, fruits, and vegetables. If you have various food aversions or allergies then it might be worthwhile to take some kind of supplement. This will ensure your body is getting all the vitamins and nutrients it needs.

If you are struggling with portion control or weight gain then it might be that you need to make healthier swaps or alternatives. If you need an extra helping hand then you could try a weight loss aid such as orlistat. This prevents the body from absorbing the excess fat that comes from your food.

Hit The Gym

When you are watching what you eat then incorporating exercise into this can work really well. Exercise and eating well go hand in hand and you can notice results a lot quicker by doing this. If you are new to exercise then you may want to have a think about what you want to do and what type of exercise you enjoy. When people think of working out they usually picture people feeling uncomfortable in the gym. This isn’t the case at all and exercise can be done just about anywhere. If you don’t want to join a gym but you really enjoy swimming then why not join a pool? Here, you can go swimming as many times as you like and most of them have a sauna and steam room that you are able to use as well. Swimming is a wonderful exercise as you don’t feel like you are working out and it burns an incredible amount of calories.

If you don’t want to exercise in public then don’t worry, you can always work out in the comfort of your own home. There are plenty of apps you can sign up to or videos to follow along with online. Alternatively, working out with someone close to you can also be good for you. This is due to the extra motivation it provides when you work out with someone doing the same thing.

Stay Hydrated

Water is a key component in the human body and without it you can’t do very much. Your body is made up of a huge percentage of water and you regularly lose this throughout the day. It is essential you replace this lost water, if you don’t then you could end up feeling rather dehydrated. Dehydration is not good at all for your body and can make you feel lightheaded and suffering from quite a bad headache. Try and drink at least two litres of water a day, this replaces the water lost through sweating, breathing, and peeing to name a few.

If you struggle to drink enough water then there are things you can do. Invest in flavoured water pods to help you tolerate drinking water. These are typically sugar free and contain added vitamins and nutrients. You could also get a water bottle that contains times on it, this tells you when it is time to drink water and when to refill it.

Socialize More

It can be essential for your mental health if you get out of the house on occasion with your friends. If they invite you out, try to accept even if you don’t really want to. It can make you feel tons better if you go out and have a great time. Socialising has been shown to reduce your risk of early onset dementia and Alzeihmer’s by around 80%. It doesn’t even need to be going out with your friends, it could also be a hobby or club where you meet other people.

Making friends is key and essential for when you get older, it can be incredibly lonely if you don’t have anybody to go out with. If you need to find some friends then you can do this online or in person. Make sure you are staying safe when it comes to meeting people online.

Take A Break

When you have such a busy work life or home life then stress can creep up on rather quickly and when you least expect it. It is important to take regular breaks from both work and home so you don’t feel completely overwhelmed. You could take some time off work, as long as you book it off with your boss. You may have a set number of days allocated for time off and you could take these any time. You could stay at home and chill out or you could also book a holiday to get some sun and sea.

Look After Your Senses

As you get older you may notice that your senses start to let you down. If you take care of them while you are young then they may be kinder to you. For instance, if you regularly take breaks from staring at your screens then this reduces your chances of eye strain. If you play a lot of video games or work long hours in front of a computer then you must take breaks every 30-60 minutes.

You might want to schedule eye tests every year to make sure your eyesight is still as good as it once was. These days your optician can even spot things before they start to affect you, this can include glaucoma or cataracts.

Look after your senses and they will look after you, get your eyes and ears tested regularly so you can stay on top of any issues that crop up.

Get Enough Sleep

According to research, you should be aiming for around six to nine hours of sleep each night. If you are not getting this then your health could take a hit. This includes both your physical and mental health. Exhaustion can be detrimental as you won’t have the energy you need to get anything done. Try and adopt a good night time routine that involves switching off technology and not drinking caffeine before you go to sleep. The blue light on your tech can keep your brain awake for hours after you are ready to go to bed. If you have a TV in your room then it might be worth moving this elsewhere, as it can be a huge temptation at bedtime.

If you struggle to fall asleep or stay asleep then it may be due to something else entirely, an old mattress perhaps. Mattresses should be changed every eight to ten years so if yours is older than this then it is time for a new one. Mattresses lose the ability to support the user after a certain amount of time and eight years is a pretty long time to support a body overnight. Shop around and don’t be afraid to try some out at a sleep showroom.

Be Kind to Yourself

Something to bear in mind when you are trying to focus on your mental and physical health is how kind you are to yourself. If the answer is not very then this can have a huge impact on how you feel mentally. Being down in the dumps or struggling with your confidence can mean you don’t want to do much or see anyone. When you look in the mirror, don’t be cruel to yourself. Try and give yourself the boost and pick me up that you clearly need. Saying things like ‘i have got this or i look good’ can go a long way. It can take some practice if you have never done it before but once you get the hang of it, it’s super easy.

Stay Clean

Lastly, when you are unclean then your body can give you all sorts of things wrong with it. You could also be more susceptible to catching various bugs that are going around. When you are struggling with your mental health it can be incredibly hard to get in the shower, but this could also help you feel better.

When you are unclean you could also have issues with your sexual health. If you don’t want to end up with things such as lice or anything else then it’s essential you clean yourself regularly and get regular STI checks.

So now you might have a greater understanding of how to look after your health and wellbeing. Remember, your mental health is just as important as your physical health. Taking care of both these things means you will feel much better in no time at all.
