There’s little doubt that I love to read, love to can, and love to use my farm fresh produce in every meal. What you may not know is what resource I trust, more than any, to ensure I’m on the right path to preserving. One of my all-time-favorite, absolute go-to references for preserving has always been the Ball Blue Book® Guide to Preserving and now, this near-and-dear-to-me resource has just expanded to an even greater reference guide!
In the largest update since 1909, Jarden Home Brands, makers of Ball brand home canning products has released 37th Edition of the Ball Blue Book Guide to Preserving providing easy ways to start fresh preserving. The most trusted resource in home canning for over 100 years, the 2015 release of the Ball Blue Book is its largest update since the first edition. Expanding 56% from the previous edition, the 37th edition of the Ball Blue Book includes 75 new recipes, pictorial step by step guides for beginners, a special section for Meal Creations and unique “You Choose” and “Our Tip” recommendations where creative variations and helpful techniques are listed for creating your own signature foods.
I personally love how modern this guide feels while still remaining true to its original roots. I really enjoy the section on dehydrating and the “Home Canning Planning Guide.” There are plenty of tried-and-true recipes but also lots of modern pictures and ideas throughout the guide. As I have in the past, I still recommend that every home preservationist enthusiast have a copy of the Ball Blue Book Guide to Preserving available on their bookshelf!

I’ll be preserving pretty much everything from my aunt’s garden (next year we’ll have our own garden, but for now she’s being generous since I’ll be helping her do all the preserving). Plus I’ll be making copious amounts of jelly and of course wine. 🙂
