The Dovekeepers Limited Event Series

To be perfectly honest, I believe Alice Hoffman is one of the most brilliant, gifted writers of my generation.  Ms. Hoffman captured me with her literary spell from the very first book I read (“Property Of,”) and has kept me enchanted with her clever, magical prose ever since.  This post for The Dovekeepers is sponsored by the Role Mommy Writer’s Network, but my gratitude for the enlightening and enchanting books from this author, my super fan-dom, and my highly-favorable opinions are totally my own!

Not familiar with Alice Hoffman’s work?  Chances are you’ve at least heard of PRACTICAL MAGIC (a film by the same name was based on the book,) or perhaps if you have pre-teens or teens you’ve heard of AQUAMARINE, a film starting Emma Roberts (based off of one of Alice Hoffman’s teen novels by the same name.)  If nothing rings a bell, I truly encourage you to familiarize yourself with this wildly-talented author ASAP!  Good news on that note, too, as you can watch Alice Hoffman’s best-selling book, THE DOVEKEEPERS, springs to life in a CBS limited event series airing Tuesday, March 31 and Wednesday, April 1, 2015 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT)!

Cote de Pablo, Rachel Brosnahan, Kathryn Prescott, Diego Boneta and Sam Neill star in THE DOVEKEEPERS, a story about a group of extraordinary women whose lives interset in a fight for survival at the Siege of Masada in 70 C.E.  This four-hour limited event series from executive producers Roma Downey and Mark Burnett will no doubt be as magical a journey as one of Alice Hoffman’s literary works!  I can’t wait to tune and hope you will join me!

Set in ancient Israel, THE DOVEKEEPERS is based on the true events at Masada in 70 C.E. After being forced out of their home in Jerusalem by the Romans, 900 Jews were ensconced in a fortress at Masada, a mountain in the Judean desert. Besieged at Masada, the Jews held out for months against the vast Roman armies. The project will recount the events from the perspective of a few extraordinary women who arrive at Masada with unique backstories, but a common bond for survival. Additionally, these women, who work together daily as dovekeepers, are all concealing substantial secrets.

Hoffman’s novel was published in 2011 by Scribner, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, earning the New York Times’ bestseller status and widespread critical acclaim, including being hailed by Nobel laureate Toni Morrison as “a major contribution to 21st century literature.”  Though I definitely recommend reading the book (and all of Alice Hoffman’s other works!) there’s no need to do so prior to viewing the limited event series.  In fact, I refrained from reading the book again just so I can be a little more “surprised” when viewing.  I’m excited to see the story come to life and from the looks of it so far, it’s definitely going to exceed my expectations!  Take a peek for yourself:

THE DOVEKEEPERS limited event series has everything I’m looking for in a fabulous show including intrigue, adventure, a whole lot of heart, and yep… a bit of dreamy romance, too!
