Make Breakfast Pop with Pereg Quinoa Pops Cereal

On school days, breakfast time comes mighty early for my daughters, with both of them sitting down at the kitchen table by 5:25am. It’s hard enough to be awake at this early hour, let alone feel like eating a healthy breakfast. So, I’m always on the lookout for the trifecta of breakfast foods: nutritious, easy to prepare and yummy. Pereg’s Quinoa Pops cereal fit the bill perfectly. We were sent four free boxes to try and share our thoughts with you. All opinions are my own.

I love the vibrant colors Pereg chose for their Quinoa Pops cereal boxes. They alone are enough to add a “pop” of happy color to an otherwise boring breakfast table. My girls were immediately drawn to them and both grabbed a box to read. There are four flavors to choose from: Strawberry, Original, Vanilla and Cocoa.

Quinoa has become quite popular in recent years, and for good reason. This grain-like seed is a good source of fiber, iron, magnesium, potassium and vitamin B.  In fact, quinoa is so healthy that Pereg Gourmet, who has been in business since 1906, has a whole line of 100% pure, fresh and natural quinoa pastas, and now four new cereals to try.  Pereg products never include any additives, preservatives, fillers, MSG, or food coloring. Plus, their products are Kosher certified, and many are non-GMO and gluten-free, making them a healthy choice for anyone with dietary restrictions.
Not surprisingly, my youngest picked strawberry first.  As it turns out, these are very sweet cereals, but she didn’t mind that. In fact, she likes it because of its sweetness! I think the girls may be part elf though, because I found it to be too sweet for me.
My oldest daughter decided to give the vanilla a try first. We cut the vanilla’s sweetness with some of the original flavor and it was fine for her.  Here is what the vanilla quinoa looks like before milk.

See how much the cereal swells up? Just like a grain would. The Quinoa Pops cereal doesn’t taste or feel like a grain though. It’s very light and sweet and unlike any other cereals we’ve tried. It’s also very airy, which comes from the cooking method. These cereals are made by popping whole grain quinoa under high pressure and a bit of heat (like popcorn). This makes them the perfect topper for yogurt, ice cream or over sliced fruit.
