When your rain jacket is ill-fitted, poorly constructed or has less-than-desirable features, life outdoors turns from joyful to miserable lickety-split!
The hardest jacket to find is a quality all-purpose one that will take you from feeding the chickens in the early morning to racing off to watch your child’s soccer practice at night. It not only has to function well and protect us from the elements, but it needs to be portable and fashionable, too.
For a task this big, it first helps to turn to a retailer like BareBones WorkWear to fulfill your every versatile need for outdoor wear. It’s a one-stop shop with all the useful gear you want and the companies you trust to deliver exceptional quality products, like Carhartt.
Now that you’ve started your jacket shopping journey, you need to decide what features are most important to fit your particular needs. When choosing a jacket that can handle spring and summer rain, wind, sun and even low temperatures like chilly nights at soccer practice there are a few key questions to ask prior to purchase:
Is the jacket waterproof or water resistant?
Water resistant materials are designed to only keep you dry during short exposure to light rain or light drizzle. They are generally light weight, highly portable and breathable. Handy to have when traveling, for biking, to slip on if the night gets a bit chilly or when you spend very little time outdoors. The will not provide adequate water protection in heavy rain or during extended exposure to light rain.
Waterproof materials are designed to keep you dry in light, medium and heavy rain conditions. Waterproof jackets are available in breathable and non-breathable styles. If you are highly active outdoors, such as playing sports or working a farm, a non-breathable raincoat is not a good option as perspiration cannot escape. Breathable, waterproof materials are ideal for active women.
To enhance the breathability, waterproof jackets like the Carhartt Women’s Force Equator have a built-in venting back panel that optimizes airflow. |
Does the jacket have adjustable features?
The hood is one of the most important areas where you will appreciate having the ability to make adjustments. Look for drawstrings features that secure easily for a tight, custom fit.
The Carhartt Women’s Force Equator Jacket, has an attached three-piece hood with drawcord and barrelarrel lock adjusters. This hood will certainly stay put when the wind blows! |
Another desirable feature to look for is adjustment capabilities in the wrist.
Straps on the Carhartt Women’s Force Equator Jacket allow you to easily secure the wrist area to keep water out and also to slip over and secure gloves easily for extra protection from the elements. |
Will the jacket transition well from day to night use?
If you want the best value from your rain wear, it pays to select a style that will suit your daily garden or farm needs as well as your active lifestyle outside the farm. Durable stylish fabrics will easily take you from morning chores to an afternoon meetings and even following you on your next family vacation.
The Carhartt Women’s Force Equator Jacket features a 5-ounce, three-layer 100% polyester shell that makes transporting it super easy. The Storm Defender waterproof breathable membrane keep you cool, comfortable and protected no matter what the situation. I think you’ll agree that the sleek, elegant design makes this a wonderfully versatile jacket that highly suitable for work or play. One that looks great and feels great – which is always a win!

Well I live in Florida so I really don’t need a spring Jacket. However, this would be perfect for a fall and winter coat down here. We get a lot of rain for sure.
I like a jacket to be large so that I have a lot of extra space in it and I’m always comfortable. Thank you.
I like the Carhartt WJ141 Women’s Sandstone Sierra Sherpa-Lined Jacket
I really like that this coat looks sturdy without being bulky and seems to give you enough room to allow freedom of movement. I took a peak at the Bare Bones website and saw a pair of capris and denim Tomboy shorts I really liked. I’ve bookmarked their site for future shopping. Thanks for the opportunity to win this coat!
That is a gorgeous jacket. I hate wearing heavy and cumbersome coats. This one is stylish and looks so comfortable. You look great in it too!

What a nice jacket you reviewed! As for me, I look for a light comfortable jacket that I can move around in and isn’t too warm with pockets to keep my phone, money, ect..so I don’t have to carry my purse around with me all the time.

When I look for a spring jacket I look for something comfortable and water proof, because I live in Seattle and rain can come without warning.
