Almost summertime, bring on the barbecue! As a Stubb’s Insider, I’m delighted to have the chance to dish up something new and hope you enjoy our favorite barbecue biscuit burgers. |
We finally have warmer temps in Kentucky, but the heavy rains keep dampening our barbecue picnic plans. My kids, however, have been clamoring for some tasty barbecue burgers – one of my favorite quick and easy recipes for the grill.
Thankfully, it’s easy enough to adapt this recipe from grill to stove top, creating a moist, delicious burger that’s simply bursting with barbecue flavor. To create an amazing barbecue burger, the basic base should be a barbecue sauce you already love. Stubb’s Sticky Sweet All-Natural Bar-B-Q Sauce is our new favorite. The sweet, smoky flavor pairs brilliantly with cheddar cheese and home-made biscuits.
Rural Mom’s Cheddar Barbecue Biscuit Burgers
(Serves 6-8)
2 lbs lean ground beef
1 egg
1/4 C Stubb’s Stick Sweet Bar-B-Q Sauce
1/8 C Panko bread crumbs
Cheddar cheese, sliced thin
12 southern style biscuits (hand-made or frozen)
Preheat oven and cook biscuits as directed using either a hand-made recipe or frozen biscuit variety. Remove biscuits from oven and cool while prepping barbecue burgers.
In a large mixing bowl, add ground beef, egg, barbecue sauce and bread crumbs. Mix ingredients until thoroughly combined. The egg and breadcrumbs are an old-school method used to keep the burgers from falling apart during cooking, but they also help the burger retain moisture and flavor throughout the cooking process.
Shape burger into 12 equal patty portions. Do not flatten patties – use a biscuit to help you gauge sizing, if necessary. You want the patty to rest on the biscuit nicely without over-hang.
Place patties in a large skillet, cover and cook over a medium heat until patties are browned on top. (Covering the skillet is key to cooking an incredibly moist barbecue burger.) Drain grease, flip patties over, cover and continue to cook for an addition 5 to 10 minutes or until hamburger patties reach a safe cooking temperature throughout.
Remove hamburgers from heat. Top with cheddar cheese slices. I cut my slices in half and overlap for ease of wrapping the burger quickly. When cheese begins to melt, remove burgers from pan and set aside.
Cut biscuits in half and set a cheddar barbecue burger atop the lower half of the biscuit. Top with barbecue sauce, lettuce, tomato, pickles or other garnishes, as desired. Serve immediately with your favorite sides and enjoy the burst of sweet barbecue flavor!

These burgers must have an amazing taste. I can see the juicy flavors just seeping out of the patty. I love hamburgers in any way, shape, or form anyway.
