The first step in having an organized life is to ensure an organized home. Some of the most irritating obstacles towards an organized house are simple to fix. Here’s a look at how to fix those pesky clutter problems once and for all:
No time to organize: The trouble with being disorganized is that a few pieces of clutter here and then can quickly snowball into surface-top chaos! It’s easy to think there’s just not enough time to get everything sorted but instead of waiting for a free afternoon to do a thorough tidy, try dedicating just one 15 minute session every day to getting on top of things. Nip around your house, throw away and junk and tidy away clothes and toys that are lying about the place.
Too many spare cords: All-sorts of tech devices have become common place in the home, from smartphones and cameras to computer tablets and laptops. With each device comes a selection of wires and adaptors which can soon add up to quite a tangle of cables and cords! Keep things organised by labeling each cord with a folded and named sticker (so you know exactly which cord does what) and have a shoe box or similar container which is dedicated just to these types of wires and plugs.
Mismatching bed sheets:You’ve taken off your bed covers and now you want to put on fresh linen… is the frustration of trying to find matching bed sheets common? Be sure to bundle sets of duvet covers, sheets and pillow cases together once they’ve come out of the wash and been ironed. You can do this with a simple string tie or even a quick wraparound of sellotape, which can be peeled of when you need to use them.
Unorganized cleaning products: A disorganized cleaning cupboard can seriously put you off your cleaning work, so help keep your house in good shape by ensuring your cleaning products are neatly organized and ready to use. Keep sprays and chemical to a minimum. Invest in a high quality, nice smelling spray, like Zoflora, that is multi-purpose. Have a quick check of your cleaning cupboard every week and clear out any ‘almost empty’ bottles which will never get used.
Children’s artwork everywhere: We all love those scribbly artistic masterpieces that our children create for us but it’s just impossible to save everything! Try to keep to only 10 pieces a year in physical form and then save the rest digitally. You can simply scan in and save or use a dedicated archive app for children’s art (like Artkive) or why not take a video of your child describing their work.
Putting bits and bobs away ‘for now’: It’s easily done, that classic action of filing just about everything in one drawer saying, ‘I’ll put it here for now’. Take ‘for now’ as the ultimate clutter warning phrase and when you find yourself thinking it, go and put that thing away where it really belongs!
