Pillsbury Classic Pizza Crusts inspired me to try my hand at creating a grilled pizza. Truly, I had no idea what an incredible treat we were missing. Grilled pizza crust turns out divine – just the right crispness and amazing flavor!
Of course, it helps to start with a great crust, and the Pillsbury Artisan Pizza Crust with Whole Grain is just the ticket. Add a few primo, fresh ingredients and you have the makings of a truly delightful gourmet meal.
Ingredients
- Pillsbury Artisan Pizza Crust with Whole Grain
- 1 Red Pepper, roasted and sliced (bell or long variety)
- Buffalo Mozzerela, sliced thin
- 1 Roma Tomato, diced
- 4 ounces Pesto, (processed or homemade variety)
- Olive Oil
Instructions
- At any time prior to creating pizza, roast red pepper in oven. Or optionally if you’d like a faster version, saute in a skillet or on the grill with drizzle of olive oil. (Tip: A few times a year, I roast 10-12 red peppers and then store them in freezer bags for quick use in recipes.)
- In a small bowl, mix pesto with 1 tablespoon of olive oil to thin.
- Preheat grill to a medium heat.
- Roll out pizza dough onto a sheet of heavy duty foil.
- Brush a light layer of canola oil on grill grate.
- Gently invert the pizza dough onto the grill rack and peel off the foil.
- Cook pizza dough until the bottom is fully cooked and lightly browned.
- Flip pizza dough over. Add preferred toppings.
- Continue to cook pizza until bottom crust is browned and toppings are cooked/cheese melted to desired consistency.

Follow the Pillsbury’s step-step-by step instructions for grilling pizza crust found here: http://www.pillsbury.com/Cooking-Occasions/Occasions/Outdoor-Eating/How-to-Grill-Pizza
Once pizza crust is ready for toppings, use a basting brush to spread pesto evenly across the top crust, leaving a small edge around the outside.
Place mozzarella slices on crust, leaving approximately a one-inch space between slices. Spread roasted red pepper and tomatoes evenly over the pizza.
Heat for 2-3 minutes or until cheese is melted.
Remove pizza from grill, slice and enjoy!
