How Healthy Is Your Refrigerator?

When I think about how healthy my refrigerator is, I think about the contents inside, meaning do I have an overload of junk food or am I sporting a nice variety of fruits, veggies and nutrient rich food choices on the shelves?

But, I should be equally concerned about the health of my refrigerator in terms of cleanliness, freshness, air quality and capacity to keep foods in an optimum environment to avoid spoilage and germs.

Current statistics show that American families waste over 180 pounds of spoiled fruits, vegetables and leftovers per year and according to the National Resources Defense Council, for a family of four, that adds up to over two thousand dollars worth of wasted food each year!  Not a desirable outcome and certainly a statistic well worth changing.

For my refrigerator, a little elbow grease can take care of the cleaning part and with a simple “click,” I can now get Ozonator to handle the rest.

What the heck is an Ozonator?  That’s certainly the first question I asked.  Is it like the off-spring of our Ozone and the Terminator? Well, actually, yes, sort of, if you think of it as a machine that eradicates the “bad stuff” in your refrigerator by using the same air purification process that our Earth’s ozone has.

The FDA approved, lightweight, compact (6”x 5”) Ozonator purifies the air and cleanses the environment inside your refrigerator, delaying the onset of mold and decay to extend the life of perishable foods. The Ozonator is scientifically proven, green award-winning, patented and guaranteed.

Setting up the Ozonator is ultra simple.  Basically, pull it out of the package, read the instructions, pop it open, insert batteries, close and your ready to place in the refrigerator.  The Ozonator operates on four “D” batteries (not included with unit) for up to 4 – 6 months, (depending on the quality and freshness of the batteries.)

The unit is whisper quiet.  In fact, though the light turned on, I had to hold it up to my ear to make sure it was working, it’s that quiet.  After putting into the refrigerator (overnight, per suggested instructions,) I awoke to find…

…a fresh-smelling fridge!  Seriously, our refrigerator (now nearly 6-years-old) has likely never had such clean, fresh air smell.  A very pleasing benefit!

I cannot attest to the reduction of spoilage, yet, as we tend to keep less perishables in our refrigerator during the off-gardening seasons… but I do have a half onion in my fridge with zero permeating smell right now, which is quite nice. The unit also takes up very little shelf space, (about the same as a pickle jar, except not as round.)

Overall, I love the concept of this unit and the promise of a fresher, cleaner, healthier refrigerator. As I have an older refrigerator without all the bells and whistles some of the new units have, it’s handy to have an inexpensive upgrade to help improve the environment inside.  The Ozonator is 100% maintenance-free and satisfaction is guaranteed by the company.
