Gifts of Empowerment for Impoverished Women Artisans

1000 Shillings

A quote from Mahatma Gandhi that is often used (and one that I happen to love and aspire to) is “Be the change you want to see in the world.”  But often times I feel overwhelmed when it comes to modeling this wisdom because there is so much poverty, so many people hurting, and so many wrongs that could use “righting.”

Where do you begin to ignite the change? Where are my time, talents and resources most needed?  How do we begin to make a difference in the path of so much turmoil.  How do I do more, be more, make a bigger difference?  The questions can be as overwhelming as the call to servitude.

Which is why I turn back to the wisdom of those far wiser than I:  Mother Theresa is noted for saying, “If you can’t feed a hundred people, then feed just one.” And therein lies the answer, it is with each “one,” with each act, that we begin to collectively make the change we want to see happen.

Organizations like 1000 Shillings put this concept into practice well in a manner that not only helps “one” but continues the effort forward by enabling women in impoverished countries to help support their families and in turn, their communities, and so on… if you want to do one thing today to help make a difference in the life of another, consider purchasing a limited edition product from this fair trade company.

1000 Shillings is different from most fair trade companies because the women artisans earn capital for their own small businesses by making the limited-edition products. Each product sold through 1000 Shillings helps a woman establish a small business, which in turn, enables her to support her family.

You need to finish your holiday shopping or spruce up your holiday wardrobe and the women artisans at 100 Shillings need to feed their families.  It’s a win-win solution for all!  And one way to consider as a potential “one” act towards making a positive change in the world.
