Three words always strike a bit of terror in my house – “Boil Water Advisory.” Every time one happens, generally after a harsh rain or some mishap, I’m constantly thinking, well what exactly did we injest before the advisory?
Not that I’m not concerned on a regular basis after seeing numerous studies and reports questioning whether our tap water is healthy, and learning that despite The Safe Drinking Water Act, there are still chemicals in our drinking water that are not regulated. It’s what prompted me to use counter-top water filtration products which give me a little better peace-of-mind and the added benefit of having to descale my coffee makers a lot less.
However, the counter-top pitchers are problematic, mainly because a) they take up way too much space, b) they are difficult to use to refill containers like those from our Tassimo and Soda Stream units and c) I seem to be the only one in the house that ever refills them. Not the best scenario because if have to move them to make room for cooking or canning or they are empty, my little ones go right back to using the faucet.

Installing the Aquasana AQ-4601 Under Counter Water Filter was super easy. Hubs had it up and running in under and hour. We chose the under the counter unit to retro-fit into our sprayer nozzle space and then chose to purchase a combo handle faucet with nozzle to retro-fit into our old faucet with knobs space. Which made me super happy because I know have a much more modern kitchen sink with features designed to keep not only our drinking water safe, but to keep bacteria at bay, too.

I’d be nuts not to say the Whole House Filter! My house had a water softener before we moved in and I didn’t think we needed to replace it. But we’ve all gotten skin conditions since moving here and I think it might have something to do with the water.
