Rural Views: #Kentucky Tiger Lillies

Tiger Lillies on Rural Mom Farm
Tiger Lillies grace our Rural Farm.

Tiger Lillies, also commonly referred to as Ditch Lillies (as Kentucky natives, they grow wild and particularly flourish along our ditch areas) are a sure-fire sign of summer in the Appalachians.

Old-time country medicinal uses for the Tiger Lily include treating sinus congestion and nausea with a concentrated brew of Tiger Lily tea.  Old-time legend says that smelling Tiger Lillies is what gives you freckles.

Whatever the tale or use, I simply love the way they brighten up our landscape and invite the summer sun to shine!

From our farm to yours, Happy First Day of Summer!

Those are lovely. We have these on my inlaw’s farm and on my father’s farm. The kids used to pick them and create bouquets all over my house.
