Protecting Smiles and Flossing Without The Pain

My mother is always so tickled that I picked up her flossing habits, as I seem to be the only sibling who did. I’ve always thought, and now know from experiences and published results of scientific studies, that flossing is key to a healthy, clean mouth.  The type of fresh mouth you know mom will be proud of!

Now, instilling this importance of flossing with my children is not nearly as easy.  I may not be as convincing as my mother or it’s simply because I’m dealing with preteen boys who could comfortably roll around in dirt all day, exist on milk and moon-pies, and never pick up a toothbrush, let alone flosser, if their life depended on it.
I’ve even tried kid-friendly flossers with dinosaur shapes and flavored floss, but the novelty lasts about a day.  And they moan about how the floss bothers their teeth and gums, making what should be a positive habit into a painful one.  I can fully sympathize as regular flossing can be a bear at times and the older I get, the more sensitive my teeth and gums seems to be.
So, happy day when the Waterpik Ultra WaterFlosser arrived in the our rural home!
My boys were instantly fascinated with the product- hello, it’s electronic, need I say more – and were giddy, seriously, giddy to test it out.  A record-setting event took place shortly thereafter when my boys asked if they could go brush their teeth. After they picked me up from the floor, this is what we discovered about this nifty gadget:

  • The Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser is super easy to set up, only took about 5 minutes to read instructions and prepare unit for use
  • it has oodles of attachments suitable for general flossing, braces, implants, crowns, bridges, or periodontal pockets. There’s a tongue cleaner, too, which my boys think is just too cool.
  • the machine is quiet and equipped with a controllable flow setting for comfort.
  • the massaging action is quite pleasant, which I think is encouraging for longer use.  In comparison to using floss, a far more enjoyable experience.
  • leaves your mouth feeling sparkly clean after using.

The Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser is a keeper for our house!  Hubby and I love it and my sons have been using it everyday (without prompting!) since it arrived.  We are officially saying “bye-bye” to traditional floss and the pain that goes along with it.
