Walgreens Prescription Savings and the Express Scripts Program

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Walgreens for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Walgreens announced that they are taking multiple steps to help patients covered by an Express Scripts pharmacy network to continue to use Walgreens service.
In 2011, Walgreens negotiated with Express Scripts for a new contract to continue services, but those negotiations were unsuccessful and the contract between Walgreens and Express Script expired on December 31, 2011.

This has left many Express Scripts customers in the lurch as they’ve come to rely on Walgreens 24-hour service and now have to find a new pharmacy that Express Scripts has a contract with.

Walgreens is attempting to buffer the disruption and inconvenience for long-time customers by providing them with various options to make the transition easier and to allow loyal customers to continue using their preferred Walgreens locations.
Options for Walgreens customers with certain prescription insurance plans managed by Express Scripts  who are affect who are affected by the non-renewal of contract include:

  • A special discount on annual membership for the Walgreens Prescription Savings Club
  • Savings on more than 8,000 brand-name and all generic medications
  • Discounts on flu shots, pet prescriptions, nebulizers and diabetic supplies
  • Bonuses when purchasing Walgreens brand products and photofinishing services
