Tide Pods – Laundry Revolution or Hype?

Tide Pods before going into washing machine

I’m a huge fan of anything that helps make my laundry chores easier while keeping my clothes clean.  If there were laundry fairies available for hire, I’d totally jump on that!

Until then, I’m game for trying anything that might makes things quicker, cleaner, and has the power to combat the creative stains my boys come up with.  So, naturally, I was skippy to give the new Tide Pods a whirl.

Tide Pods are a single dose laundry detergent unit containing detergent, stain remover, and brightener – all rolled into one multi-chamber gel pack.  Each pack is pre-measured for the average load and designed to dissolve in all water temperatures.

Having used dishwasher gel packs before and finding a few complications where the packet did not dissolve despite the heat of the water, I was a bit skeptical that Tide Pods would work well in cold water condition in my clothes washer.  I almost always opt for cold water to help conserve energy.

The Tide Pods performed brilliantly in cold water conditions, even when I initially did not follow the directions to put the packet in prior to adding clothes, the packet dissolved well as promised and left no residue.  I love how easy it was to pop the pack in without having to deal with hassle of mess of measuring laundry detergent in a cup.

My clothes came out well washed and smelling great.  The scent I tried is “Spring Meadow” and it had a very light, fresh, appealing scent.  I generally opt for scent-free products, because often I find the perfumes to be overpowering, so I was glad to find Tide’s Spring Meadow to be so subtle, yet pleasing.  Tide Pods are also available in Ocean Mist and Mystic Forest – both of which I’ll have to try next!

After trying, I was happy to find that Tide Pods are economical, too.  The average suggested retail price puts the pods at under 30 cents per load, and when found on sale or combined with a coupon, the price dips further, making the pods a viable option for budget.

Overall, this product gets a Rural Mom thumbs up for innovation, performance, scent, and price!  Our verdict, Tide Pods are certainly a welcome laundry revolution, no hype.

I’ve seen them and always wondered if they work well; I was too chicken to try them. Thank you so much for the great review and giving it thumbs up; I think I will grab a box next time i’m at the store.
